Droopy Eyelid Surgery
The area around your eyes can communicate a lot about your feelings and your emotions. If your eyelids droop or sag, you might not be communicating exactly what you’d like. That’s why our Monticello, IL plastic surgery center offers cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). An eye lift by Dr. Stuart Baker can work wonders.
The team at The Center for Cosmetic Medicine would like to go over the basics of eyelid surgery below. We’ll note the benefits, the nature of the procedure, and what kinds of results patients can expect.
How Droopy Eyelids Affect Your Appearance
If you have droopy eyelids, they can make you appear tired, haggard, or much older than you feel. You may feel particularly self-conscious about your drooping and sagging eyelids, and experience issues with your self-esteem, even around people you have known for many years.
How Droopy Eyelids Affect Your Vision
In addition to affecting your looks, drooping eyelids could negative affect your ability to see. Drooping upper eyelids may sag and limit your field of vision. Even if you wear glasses or contacts to enhance your eyesight, that won’t be enough to deal with your own eyelid blocking part of your field of vision.
Why Eyelid Surgery May Be the Best Option
Cosmetic eyelid surgery can target loose and drooping skin of the upper eyelid. It will eliminate this sagging skin, helping you look better and opening up your field of vision as well.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
Good candidates for eyelid surgery are people who suffer from sagging upper eyelids. They should be in good health overall and not suffer from any medical conditions that would make the procedure a risk to general wellness.
During the consultation process at our Monticello surgical center, we can go over the candidacy for the procedure along with all the risks and benefits involved.
The Eyelid Surgery Procedure
During the eyelid surgery procedure, an incision is made along the upper eyelid. Plastic surgeons conceal this incision along the natural fold/crease of the eyelid so it is not too visible once patients heal. Excess skin is removed and the incision site is carefully sutured shut.
During the recovery process, patients will be asked to refrain from smoking, and to wear sunglasses to protect their eyes and the skin of the eyelids from the harmful effects of the sun. Multiple follow-up visits will be scheduled to ensure the healing process goes by smoothly.
The Results of Eyelid Surgery
The results of cosmetic eyelid surgery are often quite remarkable. Patients will have smooth upper eyelids that look refreshed, with no drooping or sagging whatsoever. The incision of the upper eyelid heals well, meaning that scarring from the surgery will be difficult to notice. As time goes by, the scarring will continue to fade.
