Skin Treatments
Who Can Benefit From Treatment?
Virtually anyone who has a skin flaw can benefit from one of our procedures. Though skin treatments are commonly received in the form of a facial, areas all over the body can be treated, including the neck, chest, and hands.
We can improve your skin by treating cosmetic blemishes and serious medical concerns, including:
- Acne, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation
- Signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots
- Sun damage
- Skin cancer
Not everyone will be a good candidate for every treatment. Patients with sensitive skin and darker skin tones may have fewer options than other patients, but our skincare professionals can find a treatment and create a skin care plan that will work for you.
A Variety of Skin Treatments To Provide the Rejuvenation You Desire
When we're young, our hormones may cause acne. As we age, our bodies produce less collagen, resulting in wrinkles and sagging skin. No matter which skin concern you're trying to fix, Dr. Stuart Baker and his knowledgeable staff members at any of our locations throughout Central Illinois can design a custom treatment plan for you.
Whether you're ready to request a consultation or you need more information, you can contact us through our online form or call our Champaign, IL, office:

"I started going to see the Clinical Esthetician [at Dr. Baker's practice] after she arrived in town. Before then my skincare was minimal. During the past five years that we have worked together I have had really good results. My skin has never looked better, and I am five years older. She has worked with me, especially in the beginning when I said that I wasn’t sure that I could do all of those steps/take that extra minute to apply another cream. The esthetician has been good at explaining the reasons that I have to do these things, and now that I see the results I am so glad that I did do it. I have skincare professionals ask me frequently what I use on my skin; doctors complement me and make statements about how obviously I was never in the sun (I was, the first 35 years of my life). I can’t tell you the number of different people and in odd places who have commented on my complexion. I frankly didn’t think that that many people would notice. It didn’t happen overnight and boy I wish that I would have started at 20 years old instead of 40, but it is never too late. The esthetician has guided me and advised me, but I had to do some of the work too. Trust me, it really is worth it." K.B.
A Skin Treatment for Every Concern
Microdermabrasion
This treatment gently removes the outermost layer of skin, exposing the healthy layer beneath it. Microdermabrasion can improve your skin's overall texture and tone, while minimizing the appearance of sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, acne, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, and melasma. This procedure is safe for most skin types and colors.
Photodynamic Therapy
Ultraviolet damage to the skin can lead to rough patches called "actinic keratosis." If left untreated, actinic keratosis may turn into a form of skin cancer. During photodynamic therapy, a photosensitizer is spread on a patient's skin, where it will leave normal cells, but remain on cancerous or precancerous cells after 24 to 72 hours. A light is then aimed at the site, activating the photosensitizer and destroying the abnormal cells.
Chemical Peels
Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) Peels
AHA peels are used to exfoliate the skin, promote the production of collagen, correct discoloration, reduce oil production in acne-prone skin, prevent breakouts, brighten complexion, and improve skin tone. Though AHAs are available in many over-the-counter skin care products, a professional treatment can safely use a higher concentration to yield better results more quickly.
Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) Peels
TCA peels work by removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin to stimulate new cell growth. TCA peels are an effective treatment option for patients who want to minimize signs of aging, melasma, or acne scars. This treatment comes in a variety of strengths, so it can be customized based on a patient's skin type and concerns.
Depending on the strength of your peel, it may require downtime as you slough off dead skin cells.
Maintaining Your Results
SKINCARE AFTER YOUR FACIAL
Skin treatments can result in a dry, flaky, red, or swollen treatment site. This may last for a few days as your skin heals.
After treatment, slowly reintroduce your skincare routine. Use only a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen at first, and avoid any topical acne medication or harsh products that might aggravate your skin. Depending on your treatment, you should let your skin heal for about three days to a week before using harsh products.
Be sure to follow any treatment-specific instructions given to you by your doctor.
Exploring Candidacy for Skin Treatments
Though we have a treatment for everyone, the best candidates are patients who:
- Have realistic expectations
- Can stay out of the sun following treatment
- Don't have skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, or rosacea
- Have no history of keloids or poor wound healing
- Have not recently used retinoids
- Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
We will review your medical history during your initial consultation so we can determine your candidacy and make sure you receive a treatment that's appropriate for you.

"Dr. Stuart Baker performed cosmetic surgery, specifically a lower facelift, on me last year. I’m a "sixty-something" grandmother who has had lots of sun damage and fine wrinkling of my face and neck. To prepare my skin for optimum surgical results, Dr. Baker suggested I have several cool touch laser and medical microdermabrasion treatments to stimulate collagen growth and to even out my skin tones. I’m glad I decided to do this before the actual procedure.
I’m thrilled with the final results. I look very "natural," not at all pulled or distorted. My favorite comment from a friend was, "you look great, but you look like you!" Family and friends are still complimenting me on the benefits of Dr. Baker’s cosmetic surgical skills." P.B.
